The City of Duarte and the Duarte Chamber of Commerce will express its thanks to outstanding community volunteers and kick off the holiday season at the 32nd annual Mayor’s Thanksgiving Prayer Breakfast and 30th annual Duarte Chamber Community Service Recognition Awards. The event will be held Wed., Nov. 23, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the City of Hope Cooper Auditorium, 1500 E. Duarte Road and feature inspirational Pastor and Deputy Sheriff Rafer Owens.
For decades, Owens has had dual careers that both serve the public. Since 1995, he has served as Head Pastor of Faith Inspirational Missionary Baptist Church in Compton. In his hometown, he has also served as the Vice President of the “Compton Initiative” since 2006 committed to restoring the City through a ministry of volunteerism focusing on painting churches, homes and schools on a regular basis. Numerous nominations were received this year for the Chamber Community Service Awards. The Chamber is pleased to announce the awardees for 2017.
